WEEE LEGISLATION
THE WEEE DIRECTIVE

Under Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) legislation, manufacturers

or importers selling for the first time electrical and/or electronic equipment (Producer)

in an EU-28 country carry in that country a set of mandatory obligations.
WEEE regulates the collection, treatment and financing of electrical and electronic waste.

The Directive sets the fundamental legal rules and obligations for collecting and recycling

WEEE in the European Union.

MANDATORY APPOINTMENT

An Authorised Representative (AR) must be appointed in case of:

Sales to end-users by distance communication (e.g. online shop)

THE AUTHORISED REPRESENTATIVE

Companies established in an EU country (C1) and putting electrical and electronic equipment on the market of another EU country (C2), must or may appoint an Authorised Representative (AR) to fulfil their Producer obligations in C2. Appointment of an AR has to be executed by written mandate and must be submitted to the national register where the registration application is filed. Additional requirements may apply.

OPTIONAL APPOINTMENT

An Authorised Representative may be appointed:

If a company established in C1 is willing to take over the Producer obligations of his B2B customer based in C2.
